Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of

24th January 2015 to 31st January 2015

During the week we reported a total of 150 phishing scams

94 or 63% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 0.5% You have a limited number of unsuccessful logon entries and your online account was locked! alleged sender Nationwide Internet Banking reported 28th January 2015
  • 0.47% URGENT MESSAGE – YOU NEED TO UPGRADE YOUR ACCOUNT NOW !! alleged sender BT Yahoo! reported 28th January 2015
  • 0.43% CHECK YOUR RECENT ACTIVITY BY LOGGING IN [PAYPAL] ✔ alleged sender PayPal reported 28th January 2015
  • 0.42% Introducing Santander Security OTP alleged sender Santander UK reported 28th January 2015
