Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of

9th February 2013 to 16th February 2013

During the week we reported a total of 14 phishing scams

10 or 71% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 0.58% Your account has been limited until we hear from you PP-503-472-200 alleged sender PayPal reported 11th February 2013
  • 0.53% Message from PayPal Customer Support: Account Violated (7KMM97392588V31931L0KM) alleged sender PayPal reported 25th January 2006
  • 0.37% You Have An Urgent Security Message alleged sender Barclays Bank PLC reported 10th February 2013
  • 0.36% NATWEST ONLINE BANKING – IMPORTANT SECURITY UPDATE alleged sender NatWest reported 11th February 2013
  • 0.31% Notification about your account. alleged sender PayPal reported 11th February 2013
  • 0.28% Lloyds TSB Alert: Online Banking Suspended. alleged sender Lloyds TSB Bank reported 7th August 2008
  • 0.28% eBay Customer Support made a decision! alleged sender eBay reported 12th February 2013
  • 0.26% Security Improvement alleged sender Barclays Bank PLC. reported 12th February 2013
  • 0.25% VERY IMPORTANT – Your NatWest Online Access has been Suspended alleged sender NATWEST BANK reported 7th February 2013
  • 0.24% Your account has been limited until we hear from you PP-503-472-100 alleged sender PayPal reported 15th February 2013
  • 0.22% Your Paypal account has been limited until we hear from you alleged sender Microsoft reported 6th February 2013
