Luxembourg is experiencing a wave of telephone scams. Recently, fraudulent links have been circulating mainly by text. Be careful and warn your friends and family.

Text message scams continue circulating the Grand Duchy with no end in sight. In recent months, many organisations were forced to issue statements to inform the public of ongoing scams. Post, BCEE, BGL and, more recently, Guichet.lu, have all taken action to warn their users. The latest official warning only dates back as far as 13 December.

The latest scam promises people that they are entitled to a tax refund. To receive the money, people are then told to click on a link that redirects them to a website that more or less mirrors the Guichet.lu page.

Consulting the link takes users to a website that demands bank details and Luxtrust login data. But, do not be fooled, the page is designed to steal precisely this type of information.

If you receive one of said messages, do not click on the link! If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact the Guichet Helpdesk (+352 247 82 000). Please note that if you have not opted for e-cracking, Guichet will never contact you via text messages.

The government site provides a list of fraudulent links that should not be visited. We will not pass them on in this article to avoid an unfortunate click. However, you can go to the official MyGuichet website to consult them, without clicking on them.

Do not hesitate to report these texts to the CIRCL or GovCert. Remember that in case of doubt, it is better not to click on unknown links and that you should not enter your bank details. A message to pass on to your friends and family who are not very comfortable with telephones or smartphones.
