Two arrests have been made by Waterloo Regional Police in connection to a pair of grandparent scams in the region.

Police say on January 17, an 86-year-old man received a call advising that his grandson was in jail and $8,000 was needed in order to grant him bail. The victim then called police.

Later that day, an 80-year-old woman was also the victim of an attempted fraud. The suspects contacted her and advised her $8,000 was required to have her grandson released from jail.

Police then responded and arrested two suspects.

A 47-year-old Toronto man and 21-year-old Quebec man have been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, as well as possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused were held in custody for a bail hearing.
