FOUR users of the Amazing Seniors mobile app say it is achieving its aim of keeping them active and in the know.

Steven Loh, 63, who is semi-retired, said the app helped him form new friendships.

“This app comes in handy when I want to engage with people.

“Whether you want to join a dance, sing karaoke or watch live talks, the options are there,” he said.

Loh also appreciates the security tips to help seniors be aware of scams.

“It reminds us to be more careful,” he told StarMetro, adding that he was introduced to it by a friend.

The app also provides a platform for shopping.

“I like to do online shopping and the app has merchants that have been vetted and purchasers who have tried the products,” he added.

Loh said the job search function on the app was a valuable tool for people over 50.

“It is challenging to find work once a person reaches this age range.

“The app has various organisations which are prepared to hire seniors,” he said.

Freelancer Baveeta Kaur, 46, finds the app a helpful tool as a caregiver to her 76-year-old father.

“It’s user-friendly and has deals and promotions, including discounts from health partners.

“As a caregiver, the socialisation and interaction aspects are important to me too as they promote exchange of ideas,” she said.

Baveeta added that the volunteerism category in the app is helpful for seniors who are empty nesters.

“They can even volunteer with Amazing Seniors.

“When you meet new people, it keeps your mind active, and you realise you are not alone,” she said.

Karen Lee, 58, who is a freelancer at Amazing Seniors, said the app had become a conversation piece for her and her older siblings.

“One of them retired two years ago, and I showed them jobs available on the app that they could consider.

“At the Seniors Festival last year, I also learned about mobility therapy for my mother.

“Through the app, I know I can trust the merchant providing services like this,” she said.

Noorhayati Abd Rahman, 68, who is also a freelancer at Amazing Seniors, said she enjoys the listing of events on the app.

“As a single person, the app is good to enhance my social circle and find others who have similar interests.

“I even made a new friend recently who is now my lunch partner as both of us love food and trying new places to eat.”
