Her husband, Edward Osefo, was indicted on nine counts of insurance fraud, eight counts of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and one count of false statement to a police officer.
The story is fascinating, if you’re into fraud cases. The Osefo family returned from a vacation in Jamaica in April 2024 and reported that their house had been burglarized. Allegedly stolen were a bunch of designer handbags and jewelry. They reported that about 80 items worth more than $200,000 were stolen.
And then the police found these unusual things:
- The home’s alarm system was activated while they were away and it di not detect any motion
- There was no forced entry found by the police
- Over $20,000 of items reported stolen were returned to the stores they were purchased from for a full refund
- Insurance claims were filed with 3 different companies, and they didn’t disclose the multiple claims to the insurance companies
- Wendy posted photos of her wearing a diamond anniversary band after she claimed it had been stolen… and they tried to claim this same ring twice in their insurance claims
- An email from Edward to Wendy was asking about additional high value items they could add to the claim to get it over the policy maximum of $423,000
When the Osefos were arrested, the police executed a search warrant in the house and found 15 items believes to be ones that were claimed stolen.
