He never thought that it would happen to him. 78-year-old Singaporean actor Laurence Pang was involved in an online scam causing him to lose some S$37,000. Apparently, he was duped by a woman named “Mika” whom he had met on a dating site. “Mika” using her charms and Mr Pangs attraction to her, convinced Mr Pang to invest his money in an online shopping business in the Philippines. Mr Pang said he was “stupid” to believe that “Mika” was attracted to him. Knowing that matters are out of the SPF’s jurisdiction, Mr Pang travelled to the Philippines, went on TV in Manila and recounted his ordeal during on a public service programme called Raffy Tulfo in Action. This reality TV show is hosted by Filipino broadcaster-turned-Senator Rafael Teshiba Tulfo nicknamed “idol”.

Mr Pang’s “performance” on the show is quite revealing.

I’m a writer. This channel is not just about the Singapore government but also Singapore society in general. The current prime minister of Singapore is Lawrence. He took over the helm from Lee Hsien Loong who is currently a senior minister. His wife, though not a politician, was the former head of Temasek Holdings. Our president is Tharman, affectionately known as our ong lai president. The most well known athletes we have are Shanti Pereira and Joseph Schooling. Issues close to my heart are education, democracy, CECA, foreign talent from India and China. Singapore is nominally democratic. The PAP is the ruling party, SDP, WP, PSP are the main opposition parties. Elections are free but never fair. Singapore has limited democracy. As I lack the resources of the Straits Times, Channel News Asia and even Mothership, I appreciate every bit of support I can get from my followers.
