In Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, four women were arrested for fraudulently using fake death certificates of their husbands to evade loan repayments. They had taken loans under a group-lending scheme by Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited, which waives outstanding loans if a beneficiary’s husband dies. Exploiting this policy, the women falsely claimed their husbands had passed away to get their loans waived and receive reimbursement for paid installments. However, an investigation revealed their husbands were alive, leading to their arrest on charges of fraud and forgery.
